Cabinet Troubleshooting

Check Humidity Level: Cabinet doors will often warp during temperature and humidity changes. It is recommended that cabinets go through a full year of weather to “season” the wood. If the doors do not return to their original shape after a one-year period, CKF will replace them one time for no additional charge. Maintaining a consistent 35%-40% humidity level will help prevent warping.

Check Humidity Level: Painted wood cabinets will show joint lines and hairline cracks during the lifespan of the cabinets. This is due to the natural expansion and contraction of wood and is not a warrantable item. Wood cabinets will take a full 12 months to fully adjust to their environment. CKF recommends maintaining a humidity level of 35-40% to minimize cracking.

Check for Obstructions: Make sure there are no items inside the cabinet preventing the door from closing fully.

Misaligned Hinges: Over time, hinges may loosen or become misaligned. Tighten screws on the hinges or adjust them to align the door with the frame.

Damaged Hinges: If hinges are bent or worn out, replace them with new ones to ensure proper function.

Swollen Doors: In high humidity areas, wooden doors can expand. If this happens, you may need to sand the edges slightly or adjust the hinges to account for the expansion.

Track Obstructions: Ensure that nothing is obstructing the drawer tracks. Remove any items or debris.

Misaligned Tracks: Check if the tracks are aligned properly. If not, realign them or replace them if damaged.

Worn-out Rollers: The rollers on the drawer tracks may wear out over time. Replacing these will improve the drawer’s functionality.

Overloaded Drawers: Avoid overloading drawers with excessive weight, as this can cause them to malfunction.

Adjust Hinges: If the door is misaligned, adjust the hinge screws or loosen and reposition the hinges to ensure the door hangs squarely.

Check for Warping: Over time, wooden doors may warp if the humidity level is not maintained at a consistent 35%-40%. CKF will replace warped doors one time after the first year. New doors may vary slightly in finish.

Use a Touch-Up Kit: If the scratch is minor, a wood touch-up marker or crayon in a color that matches your cabinetry can fill in the scratched area. A matching touch-up kit can be ordered to match your cabinetry if the finish is still a current offering.

Never use polish or waxes as these compounds can build up on cabinet surfaces and will cause hazing, streaking, and a yellowed appearance.
